In 1935 the first art gallery in Frunze opened its doors to public. It featured more than 70 paintings by Russian artists, obtained from museum collections of Russia, in particular the Tretyakov Gallery. That wonderful collection of Russian art marked the beginning of the most famous repository of artistic values of Kyrgyzstan - the Museum of Fine Arts. Today, the museum funds include more than 17,000 exhibition units. Conventionally, the whole exhibition can be divided into two sections: paintings by Russian and Kyrgyz artists of the 19th – 20th centuries, and the national arts and crafts represented by all kinds of folk art: the articles from felt, utensils made of wood and leather, textiles, carpets and rugs, embroidery, men's and women's clothing, jewelry.
